International Borders Re-opening: What a week of Announcements for our fellow Australians. International travel is finally back on the cards!

How do you navigate new rules? How do you make new travel arrangements based on your current state? Are there even enough flights to come back?

This week on the Fly Me Home Series, we are receiving Nicolas Delacharlerie, Travel Agent & Immigration Agent with over 35 years experience specialised in Emergency Repatriation Services to explain us the new rules.

Where and more importantly when can we travel overseas?

From Australia, you can travel overseas without restriction from the 1st of November 2021. As well as for people coming into the country as into Sydney from the 1st of November 2021.  That means the cap will be completely lifted into NSW, and customers can book onto any flight into NSW. They can enter the country on a double vaccination which means they do not need to quarantine any more. And if failed to be vaccinated you need to follow the normal quarantine requirements.

The travel bubble is back on the cards with New-Zealand, but not for everyone, can you explain us?

The travel bubble is back on the cards with New-Zealand indeed, but it is not a 2-way bubble. It is a 1-way bubble only from the South island only into Australia. And there is no bubble from Auckland to Australia which is the North island.

Can you give us a state-by-state overview of the reopening roadmap based on the vaccination targets each state will need to achieve?

Well the vaccination target for all states is 80%, that is the Nation-wide target for the international border. NSW is the leading state because there are the ones who are welcoming international flights on November 1st. Then the other states will follow closely and they reach their own targets. Victoria is not very far. As of today, we do not have much information about WA, SA and QLD. WA keeps a close door domestically, but you definitely still have a cap on WA to fly from overseas.

Are there enough flights for Australians to return and are there still a lot of people stranded overseas?

There will be enough flights for people to return, it is a matter of choosing and booking on it. Airlines like Cathay Pacific and Singapore airlines have announced they will return to full capacity. Singapore airlines will resume up to 17 flights a week into Sydney, which is a big capacity for Australians to return to Australia.

Which vaccines do you actually need to re-enter the country and which vaccines are not just good enough to return?

Well, there is not vaccines which are not good enough. The only thing you have to look at is the vaccine that is Approved by the TGA which is the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia. If you have one of these then you are good to go.

The message I want to leave is that make sure that you stay safe, and if you can’t fly because you are not well or you don’t feel right about coming home, then where you are is probably a safe place to stay, rather than embarking in a journey that may end up being a disaster. And if you have any issues with your travel arrangements, you can contact us directly.
